DreamWorks Animation is bringing everyone to the Philippines this September.
"Forgotten Island" currently holds a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on early reviews, according to an Instagram post from the review aggregator. The animated fantasy comedy arrives in theaters on Sept. 23, 2026, bringing Philippine mythology, '90s nostalgia, and a notably Filipino-heavy voice cast.
Written and directed by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, "Forgotten Island" follows best friends Jo and Raissa after they accidentally become trapped in Nakali, a mystical world that feeds on the memories of everyone inside. Escaping, naturally, becomes complicated.
Set in the Philippines during the 1990s, the film features the voices of H.E.R., Liza Soberano, Dave Franco, Lea Salonga, Jenny Slate, Manny Jacinto, Dolly de Leon, Jo Koy, and Ronny Chieng.

Early reviews have praised the movie's visuals, story, and cultural representation. Because Filipino pride, am I right?
DreamWorks Animation first announced the project in April 2025, confirming Crawford and Mercado as its writers and directors. The pair drew inspiration from both their friendship and Philippine mythology in developing the film.
The first members of the cast were revealed in October 2025, while audiences at CinemaCon 2026 and the 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival were given a sneak peek into the film.
Tomorrow, the rest of the world gets to enter Nakali. "Forgotten Island" is in cinemas starting Sept. 23, 2026.
