Beat the Clock: Escape Rooms in Metro Manila Worth a Try Right Now

You have under an hour to get out. Metro Manila's escape rooms have a theme for every barkada. Here's where to find them, what they cost, and how to book.

Escape Rooms in Manila

Puzzles, adrenaline, and a ticking clock. An escape room offers a particular kind of enjoyment, one loaded with mind games and a good amount of thrill — and horror too, if you pick a haunted room.

The setup is simple enough. You and your group get locked in a themed room, and you have one hour — give or take — to work your way out. What's in between? A decent mix of combination locks, hidden compartments, word puzzles, riddles on walls, black light and hidden texts, and more. Somewhere, a clock that counts down how much time you have left — whether that's motivating or stress-inducing is entirely up to you.

For one, it's an effective way to learn about everyone's problem-solving skills, intellect, and other kinds of strengths. Someone almost always takes charge. Then there's a puzzle master. And someone who insists the poster with a "Do Not Touch" sign is a psychological puzzle in itself. Take our advice: it's not. It just means a fine at the end of the game.

Beating a room together is downright satisfying and, if we're honest, validating — and losing is trauma-bonding at its finest.

Fortunately, Metro Manila has no shortage of escape rooms to try — each with its own charm, mystery, and vibe. There's a theme for whatever your group can stomach and endure. Many sit inside malls too, so you can build your day around a session instead of going out of your way for one.

Most require groups of two to six. But if you want to flex your brain, some allow a solo player. Weekends tend to fill up fast, so reserve ahead of time instead of walking in.

Gather your friends and family, whoever's down for the challenge, and bring them to these escape rooms in Metro Manila:

Breakout Philippines

A pioneer that's been in the escape room scene since 2014, Breakout Philippines has put more than 100,000 players through their paces. First-timers would have no problem learning the no-frills format: you and your team have 45 minutes to plan, solve, and escape. That's it.

Reservations are strongly encouraged since slots fill up fast. Arrive at least 15 minutes early, as the timer starts on schedule. Phones, cameras, and any recording devices stay in a locker for the full 45 minutes, so the mystery stays alive for future players.

If you're the type who wants a touch of horror with your escape room experience, go straight for The Catacombs. It's one of their toughest rooms at a 4 out of 5 difficulty rating. The story? A piece of found footage shows an explorer venturing into restricted tunnel systems, chasing strange markings on the wall, before the footage cuts out mid-sprint. Your job is to retrace his steps over 350 kilometers of mapped tunnels and figure out exactly what he was running from before you get trapped inside forever. Slow-building dread rather than jump scares, The Catacombs offers a thrill like no other.

But if you don't manage to escape in time, a membership card offers up to 50% off on a second attempt at the same room.

Teams of 3 to 6 players. Kids under 13 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Rates run P450 per person (Mondays to Thursdays, any group size) up to P650 per person (Fridays to Sundays, Holidays, or groups of 1 to 2).

Lost Philippines

Billing itself as the only "next-generation" real-life escape room in the country, Lost Philippines leans hard into the promise of high-tech, puzzle-driven gameplay. No mundane keys, no physical traps, no jump scares. A global brand, Lost has a dozen branches spanning Hong Kong, China, UAE, Australia, Taiwan, Canada, Singapore, Vietnam, and finally, the Philippines.

This isn't the escape room for people chasing a scream. It's for those who want brain exercises. Expect elaborate, almost cinematic scenarios backed by tech-forward puzzle design rather than actors jumping out of the dark.

If you want the full adrenaline package, Nemesis is the one to book. Inspired by Resident Evil, it drops your team into an abandoned warehouse in a city overrun by a biological outbreak, and you've got 75 minutes to get out before the infection catches up to you. It's rated 5 out of 5 in difficulty and takes teams of up to 12, making it a solid pick for bigger groups who want to split up and divide the puzzle load. Prefer something a bit easier? Castiglione sends you hunting for twelve stolen 18th-century zodiac statue heads hidden inside a secret castle. Rated at 3 out of 5 in difficulty, this room can be done in under 45 minutes.

All games are priced evenly at P600 per person.

Mystery Manila

As the first live role-playing game in the Philippines, Mystery Manila sets itself apart from your typical lock-and-key setup. Instead of just hunting for combinations, you're dropped into a fully realized scenario and asked to actually solve something using logic and deduction as much as brute-force searching. This is your chance to play detective.

Their rooms run an hour: a five-minute briefing, followed by 50 minutes to crack the mystery, and another five minutes to debrief after. The gamekeeper stays with you the entire team, but will only step in if you ask — and every clue you request adds five minutes to your final time. Pricing scales with group size too, dropping from P750 per person for a duo down to P500 per person for a group of seven. So, show up with a bigger crew! Solo players can play as well, but you'll have to pay for two players.

Out of their rooms, Debby's Doll at Century City Mall is the one to seek out if you want an escape room with a side of a ghost story. The story: your family has just moved into a secluded house, and an old doll your little sister found starts stirring up paranormal activity. If murder mysteries are more your speed, The Deadly Dinner at SM Podium plays out like Cluedo with actual deductive weight, multiple possible killers, weapons, and motives. But if you want to flex your imagination, School of Sorcery at Eastwood puts you through a series of magical trials to earn your place at a school of spellcasting.

Some mysteries have an 18+ requirement — minors need to be joined by one adult in the room. Rooms can be fulfilled by groups of two to seven players. Unsolved attempts can be retried at a discounted rate, subject to availability.

Left Behind Philippines

The name says it all. Once you've picked a scenario, you've got 45 minutes to rally your team and beat the clock — or get left behind. Left Behind Philippines keeps things fairly simple in terms of prep; everything you need is provided on-site. Just bring your wits about you.

But they don't skimp on atmosphere once you're inside. Expect bright and/or dim lighting, loud noises, smoke, and dust used to sell the scene and make it immersive, so it's worth going in with that in mind if you're sensitive to any of it.

Game masters monitor the game quietly through CCTV, and they don't hover — only stepping in if you need help. Walk-ins are accepted, but booking ahead is strongly advised. For kids, know that there are certain themes (horror, murder, drug-related plots) that may restrict entry or require an accompanying adult.

If you're chasing some real tension, Flushed at Circuit Makati is your room. The premise is urban-legend horror at its finest: a student vanished inside a school bathroom twenty years ago, the case went cold, and the rumors only grew. Does her ghost still roam the stalls? It's rated Easy in difficulty, which makes it a solid entry point into horror-themed escape rooms. For something a little more action-driven, The Hideout at Vertis North drops you into a botched infiltration mission gone wrong. The enemies are closing in, and something is ticking in the next room. This Medium-level room strikes a decent balance between tension and puzzle difficulty.
