SET-listed Bangkok Land is setting up Muang Thong Thani in Bangkok for a major transformation, with plans for a new 45,000-seater stadium now in the works.

The project, with a scale comparable to the Rajamangala National Stadium and an investment of up to THB10 billion, will rise on the Thunder Dome site and its adjacent football stadium, with a five-year plan in place.

According to the Chief Executive of Bangkok Land, Paul Kanjanapas, the new venue will support the company’s vision of transforming Muang Thong Thani into one of Thailand’s leading entertainment and event hubs. The area is already home to the Impact Arena with a 12,000-seat capacity, the Impact Challenger with a 25,000-seat capacity, and the newly opened Pink Line Monorail, with the Lake Muang Thong Thani station directly situated in front of the project.

The site of the Thunder Dome and Thunder Dome Stadium was under a 30-year lease to the Sports Authority of Thailand since the 1998 Asian Games, but will return to Bangkok Land once the contract expires in three years.

Once completed, the planned stadium would rival the open-air Rajamangala Stadium, the largest venue in Thailand with a capacity of more than 50,000 seats. It will also add to Muang Thong Thani’s growing list of attractions, including two upcoming Hilton-managed hotels, a rebranded culinary school, a future water park, and a new shopping mall and retail program.

Bangkok Land says that the monorail, which opened two new stations in Muang Thong Thani in May, will boost visitor numbers by more than 20%, while Impact Exhibition Management is targeting a doubled revenue of THB9 billion by 2030.

Impact has secured more than 300 events for the second half of 2025, including Summer Sonic Bangkok 2025, Mariah Carey’s Bangkok concert, and the Motor Expo.

With this new development worth THB10 billion and more projects planned, Muang Thong Thani is slated to become Thailand’s next all-in-one entertainment capital.
